The Director General of Environmental Pollution and Degradation Control lr. Sigit Reliantoro, M.Sc. signs the inscription for the inauguration of Leuwi Padjadjaran Ecoriparian at the Universitas Padjadjaran Campus, Jatinangor, Tuesday (9/7/2024). The inauguration is done symbolically through the inscription signing.

After that, a Handover Report for the Leuwi Padjadjaran Ecoriparian and a Collaboration Agreement between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia and Unpad are also signed by the Director General of Environmental Pollution and Degradation Control lr. Sigit Reliantoro, M.Sc. and the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc.

Sigit said that ecoriparian is an effort to transform riverbank areas into attractive and clean places for community activities.

Ecoriparian also represents the potential for green infrastructure development, managed by the local community. Beyond serving as an environmental improvement area, ecoriparian can also serve as a place for community education and economic development for its management community.

Through the ecoriparian concept, Sigit hopes that the river will no longer be a dumping ground for waste, but rather can become a tourist destination offering attractive experiences for the public.

“The concept is actually to treat rivers as front yards rather than backyards. Rivers should serve as attractive front yards, where gardens are created and people can engage in activities there,” said Sigit.

The Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc., said that ecoriparion at Unpad environment is a significant part of the implementation of Unpad’s Core Academic Value, that is the Advancement in Law and Environmental Sustainability in National Development.

Prof. Hendarmawan hopes that the existence of ecoriparian is not only improving the awareness of the importance of environmental conservation, which is not only present among Unpad students but also among the local community surrounding Unpad.

“Surely, the hope is that everyone realizes the importance of their environment,” said Prof. Hendarmawan. (art/SA)*
