The Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Arief Sjamsulaksan Kartasasmita, MD, SpM(K), M.Kes., PhD, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) alongside the rector of Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE), Prof. Dr. Tulkin Teshabayev, at the TSUE campus on October 23, 2024.
The MoU covers double degree, student exchange, staff exchange, joint supervision, and collaborative research programs between Unpad and TSUE, widely recognized as the most prestigious institution for economics and business in Uzbekistan.
During the discussion, Prof. Arief expressed his hope that this collaboration would strengthen both universities in terms of international status and reputation, in order to improve the global rankings of both institutions. Prof. Tulkin, as the Rector of TSUE, has committed to sending students to participate in the Double Degree program at Unpad, starting in 2025, while Prof. Arief aims to increase the number of international students at Unpad through this collaboration.
After the signing of the MoU, Prof. Arief was invited to speak at a major conference held by TSUE themed ‘Transforming the Education System in New Uzbekistan: Enhancing the Quality of Education as the Ultimate Goal.’ The conference was attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, along with other academic and industry leaders. Prof. Arief spoke on reforms and changes in Indonesian education while comparing them to developments in education in Uzbekistan.
In addition to the two rectors, the MOU signing and conference were attended by prominent representatives from both universities, including Unpad Faculty of Economics and Business Vice Dean for Academic, Student, and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Maman Setiawan; TSUE’s Vice Rector for International Cooperation, Xalikov Ulug’bek Rustamovich; Head of International Relations at TSUE, Prof. Umirzokov Jasur Artikboy ugli; and Dean of the IJDP for TSUE and UPI, Dr. Yangiboyev Sirojiddin Jo’ramuradovich. Both institutions are committed to further discussions to advance the partnership, with Prof. Maman Setiawan expressing hope for timely implementation, particularly for Double Degree student exchanges and staff exchange programs in the near future.
