Leiden University, the Netherlands, visits Universitas Padjadjaran to formalize collaboration, deliver guest lectures, and explore further academic partnerships. The visit is hosted at the Executive Lounge, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, on Thursday, June 5th, 2025.
“We are honored to welcome this visit, as Leiden University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe. This opportunity allows us to enhance collaboration in education, research, and community engagement,” said the Rector of Unpad, Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita, while receiving the delegation
Echoing the sentiment, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Leiden University, Prof. Jasper Knoester, also expressed his pleasure in visiting Unpad and exploring areas of mutual collaboration. “It is a pleasure to be here. We already have several collaborations, and we are open to exploring cooperation in many other areas,” said Prof. Jasper.
During the visit, a pre-agreement form was signed to establish a Joint PhD Program in Science Environmental, Economic, and Development Studies between Unpad’s Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and Leiden University’s Faculty of Sciences.
The pre-agreement was signed by Prof. Nunuy Nur Afiah (FEB Unpad) and Prof. Arnold Tukker (Institute of Environmental Sciences/CML, Leiden University), and approved by Unpad Vice-Rector for Research, Collaboration, and Marketing, Prof. Rizky Abdulah, and Prof. Jasper Knoester.
Prof. Arnold Tukker also serves as an Adjunct Professor at FEB Unpad. He was formally inaugurated as Professor in the field of Industrial Ecology at FEB Unpad on May 28th, 2024, delivering an inaugural lecture titled “Exploring Strategies for Well-Being and Sustainability in Indonesia.”
In addition to the signing, another member of the Leiden delegation, Prof. Fons J. Verbeek of the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS), Faculty of Science, Leiden University, delivers a guest lecture titled “Shape Analysis in Microscopy” that is attended by students and professors at Unpad’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) in Jatinangor.
