[Unpad Media Channel] Universitas Padjadjaran held a special Islamic New Year (1st Muharram 1447 H) gathering themed “Intellectual and Spiritual Hijrah: Building a Blessing Civilization through Inclusive and Sustainable Knowledge, Deeds, and Endowment” at Unpad Grand Mosque (Masjid Raya Unpad or MRU), Jatinangor, on Thursday, July 10th, 2025. The event marks a significant step for Unpad in establishing a civilization that brings mercy to all through the development of its Endowment Institution.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Maman Setiawan, the Vice Rector for Planning, Digital Transformation, Finance, and Business Management of Unpad, and also the Chair of the Unpad Waqf Institution, emphasized that the theme of the gathering strongly aligns with the institution’s commitment to becoming a professional, transparent, and impactful endowment manager, serving as a foundation for civilization and a long-term spiritual investment.
Prof. Maman called on Unpad’s academic community, parents, alumni, and partners to make waqf (Islamic endowment) a part of their intellectual and spiritual lifestyle as a meaningful contribution to building a more independent, empowered, and blessed Unpad.
“God willing, through the spirit of hijrah that we embody today, we are building a more independent, empowered, and blessed Unpad, not just for our campus, but for the nation and the country,” said Prof. Maman.
Also speaking at the event, Prof. R. Widya S. Sumadinata, the Vice Rector for Human Resources and Governance of Unpad, underlined the importance of developing knowledge for the benefit of the people. He expressed hope that the Unpad Endowment Institution could serve as a driver in the transformation toward becoming the best ummah (community).
“Waqf is one of the instruments in Islam that can build solidarity and strengthen the ummah. Hopefully, this event inspires and moves us to strive toward becoming the best community,” said Prof. Widya.
The event continued with sermons from Dr. Adiwarman Karim, MBA., MAEP., on the topic “The Spirit of Intellectual and Spiritual Hijrah: Building a Blessing Civilization through Knowledge and Good Deeds”, and Dr. H. Tatang Astarudin, M.Si., who discussed “The Spirit of Intellectual and Spiritual Hijrah: Waqf as an Inclusive and Sustainable Pillar.”
Both speakers highlighted that waqf is a form of eternal charity, a lasting legacy that continues to benefit others even after the benefactor has passed. It should become a tradition and lifestyle to ensure continuous impact and benefit for the community.
“Through endowments, Unpad will not only become a smart campus, but one that is also barokah (blessed). The Unpad Endowment Institution is part of its eternal contribution in creating a legacy of benefit for society,” said Tatang Astarudin.
