[Kanal Media Unpad] The Director General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Dr. M. Fauzan Adziman, visited Universitas Padjadjaran to express appreciation for one of Unpad’s leading researchers and lecturers, Prof. Dr. Eng. I Made Joni, M.Sc., who was recognized among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier. The visit took place at the Rector’s Meeting Room, Rectorate Building, Unpad Jatinangor Campus, on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025.
“The most important foundation of technological and economic development is human resources. Therefore, we continue to strengthen talent from an early stage to build a solid foundation for the advancement of science and technology in Indonesia,” said Dr. Fauzan during the discussion.
Prof. I Made Joni, an alumnus of Unpad’s Instrumentation Physics program (Class of 1993), currently serves as a Professor and Head of the Center of Excellence in Science and Technology on Functional Nano Powder (FiNder), University Center of Excellence (U-CoE) at Unpad. Through his extensive research and innovation in nanomaterials, Prof. Made has made significant contributions to advancing science and technology in Indonesia, leading to his inclusion in the prestigious Stanford–Elsevier ranking.
“We are very proud when one of our lecturers becomes a role model and inspiration—not only for the academic community but also for students, high schoolers, and fellow researchers,” said Unpad Rector Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita.
Prof. Made also presented several ongoing research projects, including a study on graphene materials as part of efforts to support Indonesia’s energy transition.
“We are working to convert coal into graphene, which can be used for batteries and various technological applications. We have been developing this research for three years and are now preparing a pilot project,” he explained.
Also attending the event was Dr. (Tech.) Imam Santoso, S.T., M.Phil., a lecturer at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and education content creator, who expressed hope that Prof. Made’s achievements would inspire the younger generation and the academic community.
“With figures like Prof. Made, we hope to see new idols emerge in science and technology—not just from the entertainment world, but from among scientists and lecturers who make a real impact,” said Imam.
During the event, PT Paragon Technology and Innovation also presented an appreciation award to Prof. Made for his dedication and contributions as an inspiring and impactful educator. The recognition included support for research and learning facilities to encourage innovation and enhance research quality at Unpad.
