The 29th AMIC Annual Conference Strengthen Cooperation Opportunity of Asia-Africa Country

[Unpad Media Channel] Universitas Padjadjaran through Faculty of Communication Science cooperated with Asian Media and Information Center (AMIC), to held the 29th AMIC Annual Conference in Savoy Homann Hotel, Bandung on Thursday (28/9/2023).

Embracing the theme “Talk ASAP: Africa Asia Pacific Dialogue on Communication Issues”, this event was attended by over 200 participants from 14 countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippine, New Island, Myanmar, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, India, China, Bangladesh, and Australia.

Besides, Executive Director of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and writer of Connecting Africa and Asia Afrasia as a Benign Community, Dr. Yoichi Mine as the keynote speaker and 20 panel speakers.

The AMIC Annual Conference was held to share experience, perspectives, tool ideas, technology, also to give cooperation opportunities within the region, inter-region, and intercontinental.

The event also aims to serve as a platform to strengthen the cooperation between Asia and African countries. There was cooperation potential which could be done by the countries on both continents.

“The conference can be a kick-off for many collaborations between Asia and Africa’s nations, such as student exchange, research collaboration, and collaborative publication,” said General Secretary of AMIC, Mr. Ramon R. Tuazon.

In her speech, the Rector of Unpad, Prof. Rina Indiastuti said that the AMIC Annual Conference was expected to contribute to increasing the digital literacy rate of Indonesia. The government hoped that the digital literacy rate would increase.

“Surely the government hopes that the number of digital literacy rate would increase. However, the struggle is not the rate, but how it can make us productive,” said Prod. Rina. Dr. Crispin C. Maslog as the representative of AMIC added that lately, not only countries in Asia that had developed in communication science but also countries in Africa. Thus, he hoped this event could make communication more developed, not only in Asia but also in Africa. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information in Indonesia, Nezar Patria, conveyed that the academic role in communication science was important. They were the spearhead in delivering messages and doing useful research for government and industry. Nezar also gave appreciation to the 29th AMIC Annual Conference. He hoped this event would produce benefits to society. “We give high appreciation to the organizer of the 29th AMIC (Annual Conference).
