[Unpad.ac.id, 27/06/2013] After a long and tedious preparatio, Unpad team for Musabaqoh Tilawatil Quran (Quran Reading Competition) is now in Padang, West Sumatra, to compete in the National Student Quran Reading Competition (MTQ) XIII on June 23-29, 2013. Held in Universitas Andalas and Universitas Negeri Padang, the competition hosts 1340 students coming from all over Indonesia. Unpad sends 22 students to compete in several categories, namely tilawah, tartil, syarhil, fahmil, and hifzdil (1 juz, 2 juz, 5 juz), Koranic debate in English and Arabic, in addition to scientific writing on Quran.

On day four, Nanda Najih (student from geological engineering Unpad) and Taufik Al-Nur (Pharmacy Faculty) succeeded to go to the grand finale in scientific writing competition, defeating 75 other contestants. Unpad students competing in English and Arabic debates are now waiting for the semifinal round.
Other students competing in hifdzil 1 juz, Sofyana Jamil (from faculty of arts) and Naely Zulfa (FMIPA), was reported to sucessfully answer all questions posed by the adjudicators. Amty Ma’rufah (FMIPA) and Ace Syafei (FIB) did similarly in the tilawah category, winning the second place in that category on Monday (24/0). There is high chance that Unpad will become overall winner.
The competition now leaves hifdzil 2 juz and 5 juz. Unpad MTQ team is wishing for supports from students and faculties so that the team can repeat the success it once had in 2003, as the MTQ overall winner.
