The 13th Indonesia-Malaysia Cultural Symposium (SKIM) on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

[Unpad.ac.id, 18/07/2013] Unpad in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is organizing the Indonesia-Malaysia Cultural Symposium (SKIM) on November 12-14. It is the 13th time that this biannual symposium is held.

SKIM will be officially opened by Unpad rector, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia and Vice Chancellor of UKM, Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hassan Shahabudin. Key note speakers in the events are Dr. Sapta Nirwandar, Vice minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Republic of Indonesia, also the chair of Unpad Alumni Association, and Y.Bhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohd. Nazlee Kamal, CEO Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation – BiotechCorp.

According to Soni Ahmad Nulhaqim, the chief of the organizing committee, this year’s symposium brings a theme innovation and entrepreneurship for the nation’s welfare and sovereignty in accordance with the ASEAN Community program to be realized in 2015.

“This theme is in response to the dynamics of the relations between the two nations among ASEAN nations towards ASEAN Community in 2015,” said Nulhaqim during a press conference on Wednesday (17/07). Organized by the two universities since 1985, SKIM initially focused on disciplines such as sociology and anthropology. However, it covers almost all disciplines taught in higher education institutions.

Innovation and entrepreneurship are brought forth as a model to strengthen diplomatic ties between the to countries in particular, and ASEAN nations at large. The model is expected to nurture economic stability in every ASEAN country through bilateral economic cooperation.

SKIM will host approximately 300 participants consisting of lecturers, researchers, and students from all ASEAN countries, 150 of whom are from Indonesia. Interested participants are to submit abstract before August 23, 2013. Selected papers will be published in a proceeding and Scopus-indexed journals.
