Strengthening Education to Achieve Environmental Sustainability

[Unpad Media Channel] The Center of Excellence in Environment and Sustainability Science of Universitas Padjadjaran, along with the Unpad’s Graduate School, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Bandung Urban Agriculture Heritage (BUAH), conducted a public lecture titled “Trend and Challenger in Environment and Sustainability” at the Seminar Room of Unpad Graduate School, Bandung, Thursday (25/4/2024).

The public lecture presented by the professor from the University of Tokyo, Japan, Prof. Kazuhiko Takeuchi, is a part of the “International Workshop: Integrated Study on Urban Agriculture as Heritage (INSUAH) 2024” initiated by five countries, namely Germany. Japan, Brazil, Cuba, and Indonesia.

The Director of Innovation and Corporation, Dr. Tomy Perdana, S.P., M.M, officially opens the event. In his opening speech, Prof. Tomy mentioned his gratitude for implementing public lecturing, which was significant for the vision for the future.

Prof. Tomy also said that as future leaders whose decisions and actions could significantly impact the sustainability of natural resources, magister students had to be capable of facing challenges in realizing such sustainability.

Moreover, Prof. Tomy also hopes that implementing this public lecture can inspire those who participate to actively participate in discussions.

Prof. Tomy expects that it can inspire all people to enhance efforts to preserve the environment and sustainability for Indonesia’s future. It is a good opportunity to build positive connections for the future.

In his presentation, Prof. Kazuhiko Takeuchi explained that developing education capacity was one of the crucial ways communities could actively contribute to achieving sustainability. This encourages the University of Tokyo to open the Sustainability Science Pro, allowing international students to enrol.

Prof. Kazuhiko, the recipient of the Otto Soemarwoto Unpad Award in 2017, said that it was important for people to comprehend the condition in society, and education became a crucial matter. He supports the training program for the stakeholders, including the young generation. It not only educates students, but it is also important to teach other stakeholders, including young people.
