Faculty of Cultural Sciences Holds Public Lecture Featuring Experts from Universiti Utara Malaysia

The atmosphere of the public lecture by Associate Professor Dr. Hishamudin Isam from Universiti Utara Malaysia at Unpad’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences.*

[Unpad Media Channel] The Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Universitas Padjadjaran holds a public lecture featuring Associate Professor Dr. Hishamudin Isam from Universiti Utara Malaysia at the Japanese Language Study Center of Unpad’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences Campus, Jatinangor, June 11th – 15th, 2024.

In the public lecture on June 11th, 2024, Prof. Isam presents course material about “Big Data and Its Relevance in Digital Linguistics”. This presentation explains in detail about the concept of big data, the use of big data in language processing, its necessity and benefits, and concludes with examples of its outcomes.

The next day, there are joint research discussions and advanced lectures for undergraduate students. Quoted from the webpage of Unpad’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences, in the Sociolinguistics course, students study “Tasrif and the Politeness Analysis Model,” as well as “Taboo and Euphemism.” On the other hand, in the Psycholinguistics course, students learn about “Language and Mental Representation” and apply new experiences, perspectives, and knowledge for students of Unpad’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences.

Besides giving lecture for undergraduate students, Professor Isam also delivers a public lecture to postgraduate students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Professor Isam teaches the Critical Discourse Analysis course for Linguistics postgraduate students. The public lecture event concludes with a joint research discussion on June 15, 2024.
