[Unpad Media Channel] A student team of Universitas Padjadjaran developed a multifunction product to prevent body odor and excessive sweating while perfuming the body with the overflowing scent of Kalimantan’s endemic Mango Kasturi fruit.
This product contains essential oil from lemon peel isolated directly from the fruit’s production remnants. Labeled “TrustUs”, this product, which comes in a spray bottle packaging, was developed by Samuel Lestyawan (Pharmacy), Nurul Aulia (Economics), Noor Zhafirah (Pharmacy) Rifa Nurfadila (Pharmacy), and Zidny Ilman Azmy (Economics). The team is under the supervision of Dr. apt. Ami Tjitraresmi, M.Si.
The development of this product is an implementation from the Student Creativity Program – Entrepreneurship (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Kewirausahaan or PKM-K) that is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
“We created this product to reduce the increasing accumulation of lemon waste each year. Moreover, the use of the Mango Kasturi scent is specifically aimed at introducing the endemic fruit of Kalimantan, which is still relatively unknown among the public,” explained Samuel, the team leader.
The essential oil from lemon peel used, obtained through waste distillation, is also aligned with the current trends of ‘back to nature’ and ‘zero waste’. This initiation comes from the trend of consumers who are increasingly favoring cosmetic products that use natural and environmentally friendly ingredients.
Furthermore, essential oil from lemon peel’s ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, a bacteria responsible for body odor, is a key reason for its inclusion as a primary ingredient in TrustUs products.
Until recently, those who have tried the product have given positive feedback which highlights the unique aroma of the formulation and its effectiveness in neutralizing body odor and reducing sweat production. In addition to the body odor, TrustUs is also effective in getting rid of foot odor.
Indi, a Pharmacy student in the exchange program at Unpad, who also brought TrustUs to her hometown in Maluku, gave a positive feedback.
“The product is excellent! The aroma is very unique and I really like it. This product also effectively controls body odor for a long time,” she explained. No wonder, Indi bought three bundle packages to be given to her friends in Ambon. (release/SA)*
