[Unpad Media Channel] Universitas Padjadjaran and the Alumni Association of Unpad (IKA Unpad) in Qatar have launched a humanitarian initiative to raise funds for a scholarship program called the Doha Education Scholarships for Outstanding Future (DESOF). The scholarship is designated for international Muslim students and is managed by Unpad’s Endowment Fund. The DESOF launch took place during the Unpad Saba Doha event at the Indonesian Embassy in Doha, Qatar, on Friday, September 20th, 2024.
The launch was attended by the Rector of Unpad Prof. Rina Indiastuti, the Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Ridwan Hassan, the Director of Unpad’s Commercial Business Development and Investment Agency Prof. Diana Sari, S.E., M.Mgt., Ph.D., and the Chair of the Alumni Association of Unpad in Qatar Davina Chairunnissah.
“In Qatar, Unpad is launching DESOF, a special endowment fund program. One of its purposes is to provide scholarships, specifically living cost support, for international students from Muslim countries,” stated the Rector.
As a State University with Legal Entity (PTNBH), Unpad is mandated by the government to manage its endowment fund. The Rector explained that Unpad welcomes donations and investments through its Endowment Fund for educational purposes. The fund remains intact, while the returns from its management are used for scholarship programs, as is currently being done for active Unpad students. Unpad continues to strive for greater global recognition while ensuring its presence brings benefits on both national and international levels.
“Our efforts focus on expanding international partnerships and collaborating with alumni to enhance Unpad’s global reputation. We also aim to attract more international students to Unpad, ensuring the benefits reach them,” the Rector added.
