[Unpad Media Channel] The Board of Trustees of Universitas Padjadjaran has appointed Prof. Arief Sjamsulaksan Kartasasmita, dr., Sp.M(K)., M.Kes., Ph.D., as Rector for the 2024-2029 term. The inauguration took place through a Plenary Meeting of the Unpad Board of Trustees at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata, Iwa Koesoemasoemantri Campus, Bandung, on Monday, October 7th, 2024.

The appointment was formalized based on Unpad Board of Trustees Decision No. 07/UN6.MWA/KEP/HK/2024.

Dr. Ir. Arief Yahya, M.Sc., the Chair of Board of Trustees of Unpad, stated that the rector was chosen based on two criteria: academic leadership, assessed through university rankings, and business leadership, evaluated through endowment funds, investments, and remuneration. The Board set three targets for the Rector: achieve a top-300 global university ranking, generate revenue of IDR 3 trillion, and establish industry-standard remuneration.

“Lead Unpad toward being a globally recognized, impactful institution within the top 300 World Class Universities,” encouraged Dr. Arief Yahya.

Outgoing Rector Prof. Rina Indiasturi, S.E., M.SIE., advised the new Rector to address Unpad’s ongoing challenges and continue major projects such as the Unpad Hospital, Cancer Hospital, and Solar Power Plant.

“Keep progressing through cooperation,” Prof. Rina advised.

In his remarks, Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita pledged to uphold Unpad’s status as a leading higher education institution in Indonesia, aspiring to elevate Unpad’s reputation as a World Class University.

“This goal goes beyond rankings; it aims to foster national welfare, support Indonesia’s vision for 2045, and promote the well-being of the Unpad community,” stated Prof. Arief.

He called on all Unpad members to collaborate, innovate, and address challenges.

“Let’s work together to guide Unpad toward a brighter future. With our collective spirit, commitment, and hard work, I am confident Unpad will become a globally recognized university and a driving force for Indonesia’s national development,” expressed Prof. Arief.

The event was attended by Indonesia’s Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, Acting Governor of West Java Bey Triadi Machmudin, and officials from the West Java regional government, police, education department, and the Unpad Board of Trustees. University and faculty leaders were also present.
