[Unpad Media Channel] The Public Communication Office of Universitas Padjadjaran holds its Monthly Visual Archive Exhibition, “Lokakala,” with the theme “Campus Transportation at Unpad” at the Rectorate Hallway of Unpad Jatinangor on Monday, December 9th, 2024.
This exhibition highlighted the historical development of campus transportation at Unpad, which has supported the mobility of its community within the campus. According to Dadang Sunardi, the Coordinator of the Directorate of Asset and Infrastructure Management at Unpad, the journey began with private transportation services operated by local residents who saw an opportunity to earn income by assisting campus mobility.
The evolution continued as Unpad received donations of “Yellow Buses” and several Mitsubishi L300 vehicles in a pale green color. These were used as free campus shuttles. However, over time, the yellow buses were retired due to age and poor condition.
“Due to their age and unsuitability, the buses were no longer operational. The remaining campus transportation was the pale green L300 vehicles and community-operated transport,” explained Dadang.
In late 2008, Unpad’s 10th Rector, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia, implemented a policy to provide free campus transportation for all. Following this, Unpad rented vehicles from local residents for free shuttle services until 2017.
“In 2017, the community-operated transport was discontinued after Unpad received a substantial donation of vehicles. The university offered drivers the opportunity to collaborate as Unpad employees operating campus transportation,” said Dadang.
Campus transportation has become a beloved feature of Unpad, often receiving positive feedback for its accessible facilities. Through this exhibition, Dadang hopes Unpad will continue to enhance its transportation services to maintain their relevance and usefulness for the campus community.
“We hope this exhibition uncovers small but significant stories that might have gone unnoticed. It can become a valuable historical resource for Unpad, allowing everyone to understand its evolution and work together to preserve and improve it,” Dadang added.
