[Unpad Media Channel] The delegation from the Faculty of Nursing of Universitas Padjadjaran participates in the 2024 Sakura Science Program held in Shizuoka, Japan, from December 15th to 20th, 2024. Under the theme “Study of Disaster Prevention and Nursing,” the program aims to strengthen academic and cultural relationship between Japan and Asian countries through scientific collaboration.

“This program provides profound insights into disaster management in Shizuoka Prefecture and disaster nursing at Shizuoka University, covering effective disaster management policies, disaster education for nursing students, and inspiring nursing laboratory facilities,” said Ristina Mirwanti, S.Kep., Ners., M.Kep, one of the faculty representatives and a researcher from Unpad’s Faculty of Nursing delegation.

In addition to Ristina, the delegation included Sri Hendrawati, S.Kep., Ners., M.Kep. (a professor and researcher), and two undergraduate students, Helen Frieda Katherine and Farah Najwa. The activities began with sessions on disaster prevention policies in Shizuoka Prefecture, disaster nursing management, and emergency response. Participants also observed and engaged in disaster simulations at the Shizuoka Prefecture Disaster Prevention Center and gained insights into disaster prevention measures at Shimizu Port. The delegation participated in a triage simulation under emergency conditions.

Beyond academic activities, the delegation toured the University of Shizuoka, visiting Oshika Campus and Kusanagi Campus. On the cultural side, they explored historical sites such as Sumpu Castle Park and experienced a traditional tea ceremony unique to Shizuoka. These cultural activities introduced effective and relevant post-disaster stress management techniques.

Through this program, the delegation also had the opportunity to meet with the President of Shizuoka University and other university leaders. The program aimed to strengthen the collaboration between Shizuoka University and Universitas Padjadjaran, which began in 2019 but had been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The hope is for continued cooperation in education, student exchange, and research in the future.

On the final day, the delegation visited the Sports, Culture, and Tourism Department of Shizuoka Prefecture. A warm welcome from the department’s director and staff underscored Japan’s strong commitment to sharing experiences and best practices.

The delegation is expected to apply the knowledge gained to enhance disaster prevention efforts in Indonesia, particularly in West Java Province. This program not only enriched the participants’ knowledge but also strengthened international relations between Indonesia and Japan in education, research, and disaster management.*
