The International Conference of Applied Statistics 2013 discusses the development of world’s Statistics

[Unpad.ac.id, 16/09/2013] Statistics Study Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Unpad in collaboration with Statistical Forum for Higher Education (FORSTAT) organized The International Conference of Applied Statistics (ICAS) 2013 on September 16-19, 2013 in Unpad Jatinangor.

According to the head of committee, Dr. Toni Toharudin, M.Sc., 60 speakers including researchers and academicians from 10 countries joined the seminar. The speakers came from backgrounds such as statistics research, both from academic field and institution. In addition, three keynote speakers, West Java Governor, Ahmad Heryawan, Suryamin Ph.D. from Central Agency on Statistics, and Prof. Asep Saefuddin, Ph.D. from Bogor Institute of Agriculture were also present at the seminar.

Dr. Toharudin explained that the seminar presented 12 invited speakers from a number of universities, such as Radbound University of Nijmegen, University of Leuven, Antwerpen University, University of Groningen, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Cardiff University, La trobe University, Tilburg University, Seoul National University, University of Malaysia Perlis, and FMIPA Unpad.

The themes fro the paper ranged from various fields in Applied Statistics including  Biostatistics, Data Mining and Informatics, Technometrics, Sampling Technique, Econometrics, Spatial Econometrics, Actuary, Spatial Statistics, Statistics Education, Sociometrics, Psychometrics, Stochastics, Statistical Theory, and Nonparametric Regression. “This seminar is also an event for the participants to create cooperation in the development of Statistics research,” said Dr. Toharudin.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector of Research and Community Service and Cooperation Unpad, Dr. med. Setiawan when opening the seminar said that ICAS 2013 was expected to not only for sharing thoughts in Statistics, but also for family gathering of researchers. “Unpad fully supports ICAS 2013, and it is hoped that there will be continuous cooperation among the universities in the future,” said Dr. Setiawan.
