[Unpad Media CHhannel] The KKN team from Universitas Padjadjaran, Group 208, with the Field Supervisor Prof. Dr. sc. agr. Ir. Agung Kurniawan, M.Sc.Agr., held the socialization event titled “Increasing the Interest of the Younger Generation in the Agricultural Sector” in Arjasari Village on January 26th, 2025. The socialization event was attended by 18 young members of Karang Taruna from different neighborhood associations in Arjasari Village.
This socialization aimed to spark a genuine interest in agriculture among young people and reshape the perception of agriculture as a profession that is often seen as a hindrance for youth to pursue a career. The event featured a variety of opportunities and innovations in the agricultural sector to encourage young people to explore various roles, ranging from sustainable farming practices to agricultural technology innovations, as contributions to food security and environmental sustainability.
According to Sakernas 2024, Prof. Agung noted that the agricultural, forestry, and fisheries sectors contribute 28.18% of the total workforce, offering great opportunities for young people to innovate and contribute to national food security. Therefore, various strategic initiatives aimed at involving youth in the agricultural sector are crucial. These initiatives include collaborations between FAQ, the Presidential Staff Office, the Youth Entrepreneurship Program, the Employment Support Services (YESS) Ministry of Agriculture, and the West Java Millennial Farmers initiative. These programs aim to inspire the youth of Karang Taruna from various RW in Arjasari Village, foster their interest in agriculture, and pave the way for a new generation of modern farmers.
Furthermore, Prof. Agung emphasized that the role of farmers is not limited to traditional land-based activities. He encouraged Indonesian youth to play an essential role in innovating and developing a technology-based agricultural sector, supporting modernization efforts to create a new generation of skilled and productive farmers, actively contributing to improving the agricultural landscape.
This socialization event is expected to ignite a sense of togetherness and generate ideas that will serve as a foundation for the youth, particularly in Arjasari Village, to help build a more advanced agricultural sector in Indonesia. (Release)
