Unpad Indonesian Red Cross Volunteer Cross (KSR PMI) Unit is a university-level student organization engaged in humanitarian efforts, sticking to to the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Initially, Universitas Padjadjaran established an organization called “Keluarga Donor Darah” (KDD) or Blood Donor Family, consisting of students from various faculties. In 1993, the Vice Rector III of Universitas Padjadjaran at that time, Prof. Dr. A. Himendra Wargahadibrata, dr., Sp.An., KIC, assigned four medical students—dr. Yusri, dr. Setiawan, dr. Irvan, and dr. Iman—to attend the National KSR Workshop for Universities in Malang. After returning from KSR University workshop, the four students pioneered the formation of KSR PMI Unpad, officially establishing June 9, 1993, as the unit’s founding date.
At the beginning of its establishment, most of the members of KSR PMI Unpad came from members of the Blood Donor Family (KDD) and were later joined by members from various faculties at Universitas Padjadjaran. At that time, the KSR PMI Unpad management carried out the first training at the PMI Bandung City headquarters. In 2011, based on policy from the Central PMI, KSR PMI Unpad changed its name to KSR PMI Unit Unpad. The existence of the KSR PMI Unpad Unit has become a very strategic and effective organization to continue to be developed in a sustainable manner, considering that this organization is one of PMI’s Human Resources (HR) components as well as the young generation who will continue PMI’s ideals and mission of service in the community.
