[Unpad Media Channel] The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (abbreviated as FPIK) at Universitas Padjadjaran has collaborated with the National University of Singapore School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (NUS SCALE) Master of Science in Environmental Management to launch a double degree Master’s Program. The program, which has been in development for the past three years, is officially launched at Bale Sawala, Unpad Jatinangor Rectorate Building, on March 6th, 2025.

“This initiative marks a significant milestone in FPIK Unpad and NUS’s journey towards academic excellence, international collaboration, and impactful contributions in fisheries, marine conservation, and environmental management,” said Prof. Rizky Abdulah, Vice-Rector for Research, Collaboration, and Marketing at Unpad, in his opening remarks.

Previously, FPIK Unpad collaborated with NUS by sending students to participate in the NUS Young Fellowship Program. The partnership has continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in December 2024, establishing the double degree program combining a Master’s in Fisheries Science and Marine Conservation at Unpad with a Master of Science in Environmental Management at NUS SCALE.

Dr. sc. agr. Yudi Nurul Ihsan, S.Pi., M.Si., Dean of FPIK Unpad, emphasized Indonesia’s vast economic potential in the marine and fisheries sector. He stated that Indonesia requires skilled human resources to manage this potential effectively, similar to Singapore.

“We believe that through the partnership between Unpad and NUS, we are not only striving for academic excellence but also realizing Unpad’s vision to become a world-class university,” said Dr. Yudi Nurul Ihsan.

Furthermore, Prof. Eddie Lau Siu-Kit, Director of the Master of Science in Environmental Management Program at NUS SCALE, reaffirmed NUS’s commitment to welcoming Indonesian students into the double degree program.

“This collaboration has been in the works for over three years, and we are thrilled to see it come to fruition. In particular, we aim to strengthen connections with neighboring countries, fostering cooperation and reinforcing the ASEAN community,” said Prof. Eddie Lau Siu-Kit.

The double degree program is designed to enhance academic and research capabilities in marine and fisheries science while also reinforcing international partnerships in higher education. The FPIK-NUS double degree program offers a globally oriented curriculum, expanding career opportunities and preparing students to contribute to sustainable development.

Through this program, students will have the opportunity to study at NUS in Singapore while also completing their studies at Universitas Padjadjaran. Moreover, students will be assisted in securing internships with companies in Singapore, allowing them to build professional networks and gain industry experience.

With the launch of the Unpad-NUS double degree program, students are encouraged to seize this opportunity for personal and academic growth. This program plays a crucial role in enhancing human resource capacity for marine resource management, aligning with government priorities on green and blue economy initiatives.

As part of the event, a masterclass is also being held, featuring Prof. Eddie Lau Siu-Kit as the keynote speaker. He presents a lecture titled “Urban Energy and Blue Solutions: Sustainable Power for Expanding Cities”, providing insights into sustainable energy solutions for urban development and fostering an engaging discussion among participants.
