[Unpad Media Channel] Universitas Padjadjaran held the soft launch and socialization of its Distance Learning Program (Pendidikan Jarak Jauh/PJJ) adopting the Hi-Flex (High Quality, Innovative, Inclusive, and Flexible Learning) design. Conducted in a hybrid format at Bale Sawala, Unpad Rectorate Building in Jatinangor on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, the initiative marks a strategic step by Unpad in expanding access to higher education and improving learning flexibility in the digital age.
“This is a progressive step by Unpad, aligning with the spirit of transformation we uphold at the Ministry of Transmigration. I hope this initiative will be followed by other universities,” stated the Minister of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia, M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, who joined the event virtually.
The Ministry of Transmigration is collaborating with Universitas Padjadjaran through the “Transmigration Patriot Program” scholarship, aimed at enabling the younger generation to contribute to the development of transmigration areas. Through this program, participants will engage in education, research, and community service via a double-degree scholarship scheme available for D4, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels at local, national, and international universities starting in 2026.
“In line with Unpad’s vision of inclusivity, we strive to provide access to as many students as possible. Students don’t need to be on campus full-time to pursue their studies—they can work or partner with other institutions while studying,” said the Rector Unpad, Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita, in his opening remarks.
The Hi-Flex Distance Learning Program is developed by the Unpad Office of Distance Education (KPPJJ), also known as Padjadjaran Open Education and Distance Learning Center (PaDLoc), under the Directorate of Academic Affairs. This program reflects Unpad’s commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive, and impactful higher education.
Currently, four Master’s programs have implemented the PJJ system are Faculty of Agriculture: Master of Agricultural Economics (Food Sovereignty concentration), Faculty of Animal Husbandry: Master of Animal Science (Livestock Development Management concentration), Faculty of Pharmacy: Master of Pharmacy (Health Technology Assessment concentration), and Faculty of Nursing: Master of Nursing
“We will continue to ensure that distance learning at Unpad maintains high quality so that the stigma of online education being inferior can be disproved,” the affirmed the Rector.
The event was also attended by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of Unpad Prof. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, the Vice Chair of Unpad’s Board of Trustees Prof. Arry Bainus, academic directors and faculty leaders across Unpad, and the Head of the West Java Provincial Food Security Agency Linda Al Amin, S.T., M.T.
A talk show titled “Digital Transformation in Education: Advancing Human Resources through Distance Learning” was also held, featuring Rector Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita and Academic Senate Secretary Prof. Yoni F. Syukriani as speakers, and moderated by Unpad’s Director of Academic Affairs Prof. Aliya Hasanah. The discussion focused on the strategic role of digital transformation in fostering high-quality human capital through adaptive and inclusive distance learning models at Unpad.
Through the launch of this Hi-Flex-based PJJ program, Unpad reinforces its commitment to continuous innovation in higher education systems that are adaptive and aligned with contemporary needs. Collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Transmigration becomes a strategic move to broaden access to inclusive, high-quality education that transcends geographical and temporal boundaries.
