[Unpad Media Channel] Bryan Dwi Andika Pengarapenta Kaban, commonly known as Bryan Kaban, a student of the Faculty of Law Universitas Padjadjaran, has been selected as one of Indonesia’s delegates for the Model East Asia Summit (Model EAS) 2025. Bryan was chosen from over 1,400 applicants for the prestigious event organized by the ASEAN Foundation at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta on September 15th-19th, 2025.
The conference brought together 60 student delegates from 19 East Asia Summit (EAS) participating countries, including ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste, and the dialogue partners of EAS—Japan, China, New Zealand, India, Russia, the United States, South Korea, and Australia.
This year’s ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) adopted a special format to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the East Asia Summit, a high-level forum that plays a key role in discussing strategic, political, and economic issues to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Southeast and East Asian regions.
The opening ceremony was attended by ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General H.E. San Lwin and several high-ranking diplomatic representatives, including H.E. Derry Aman (Ambassador of Indonesia to ASEAN), H.E. Sitsangkhom Sisaketh (Permanent Representative of Laos to ASEAN), H.E. Kiya Masahiko (Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN), and H.E. Tiffany McDonald (Ambassador of Australia to ASEAN). The event was officially opened by Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, who emphasized the vital role of youth in strengthening regional diplomacy through a deeper understanding of ASEAN’s mechanisms.
The main focus of the program was to promote youth participation in regional diplomacy by addressing three major issues, namely offshore renewable energy, disaster management, and marine pollution and waste. These topics reflect ASEAN’s strategic priorities under its three main pillars: Political-Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural.
In this conference, Bryan was appointed as the Head of Government of Singapore, representing the Political-Security Pillar and leading discussions on disaster management within the East Asia Summit simulation.
As an Indonesian delegate and representative of Universitas Padjadjaran, Bryan played an active role in formulating policy recommendations aimed at strengthening regional cooperation. His participation in this international forum reflects the spirit of Indonesia’s young generation to contribute to regional diplomacy and to position Indonesia as a key partner in building a peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future for Southeast Asia.
The conference concluded with the Chairman’s Statement, a document summarizing the delegates’ perspectives, ideas, and policy recommendations on regional issues, offering collaborative proposals to enhance cooperation in renewable energy, disaster management, and marine waste management.
