[Kanal Media Unpad] Universitas Padjadjaran has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international academic networks through a sustainable collaboration with the University of Stavanger (UiS), Norway. From October 18th-24th, 2025, two UiS representatives, Prof. Ingrid Tjoflat and Magdalena Brekke, visited Indonesia for an academic exchange aimed at deepening the partnership with the Faculty of Nursing, Unpad.
The visit was part of Unpad’s global initiative to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through cross-country collaboration, Unpad seeks to strengthen educational and research capacities in the health sector while promoting international learning experiences for students and faculty members.
During the week-long visit, the UiS delegation participated in several key activities, including meetings with Unpad and Faculty of Nursing leaders, academic discussions with lecturers and students, field visits to Unpad Hospital and Welas Asih Hospital Bandung, as well as joint planning sessions for 2026 follow-up programs. Several strategic initiatives were agreed upon, including the development of student exchange programs, joint supervision, and international research collaboration in global nursing and public health.
The partnership between Unpad and UiS has already yielded tangible results. Currently, two UiS students are undertaking clinical internships at Welas Asih Hospital Bandung, while two Unpad Nursing students previously joined an immersion program at a nursing home in Norway. These exchanges provide valuable opportunities for students to gain cross-cultural insights, understand global health care systems, and enhance their professional competencies in international environments.
Unpad’s Rector emphasized that such international collaboration not only broadens academic networks but also reflects Unpad’s contribution to strengthening human resource capacity in global health. This aligns with Unpad’s strategic direction as a world-class research university committed to fostering a healthy, empowered, and sustainable society.
The Faculty of Nursing remains one of Unpad’s most consistent units in developing international partnerships based on sustainable collaboration. These initiatives open avenues for joint research in community nursing, geriatric nursing, and global health promotion, benefiting both the academic community and public health development in Indonesia and beyond.
Through this inclusive and collaborative form of academic diplomacy, Unpad continues to play an active role as a bridge of knowledge between nations, reinforcing global solidarity in health and contributing to the achievement of the 2030 SDGs through quality education, impactful research, and strategic international partnerships.
