[Unpad Media Channel] In commemoration of World AIDS Day, Universitas Padjadjaran collaborated with the Sumedang Regency Government and the Sumedang Regency AIDS Commission (KPA) to host a World AIDS Day event at Bale Sawala, Unpad Rectorate Building, Jatinangor, Monday, 1st December 2025. The activity aimed to strengthen HIV/AIDS prevention efforts in Sumedang Regency and its surrounding areas.
The event included the distribution of social and nutritional assistance for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and children living with HIV (CLHIV), as well as recognition for various institutions and services actively engaged in HIV/AIDS prevention across the region.
Regent of Sumedang, Dr. H. Dony Ahmad Munir, S.T., M.M., expressed his gratitude to all participants, especially Unpad as the host. He emphasized the importance of accelerating health transformation efforts that prioritize promotive and preventive approaches in the region.
“Thank you to Unpad for hosting this event. The university is present and actively contributing to HIV and AIDS prevention efforts in Sumedang Regency. We hope the message from this activity will spread to everyone here,” said Dony.
Rector of Unpad, Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita, highlighted the university’s commitment as an educational institution to contributing academically and through health initiatives to collectively address HIV/AIDS.
“It is an honor for Unpad, as a member of the Sumedang community, to host this World AIDS Day commemoration focused on how we can resolve this issue together. This is a mandate for us to contribute academically, scientifically, and through public health initiatives, particularly in Sumedang Regency and more broadly across West Java,” the Rector stated.
The event was also attended by representatives from the Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for People with Social Welfare Problems of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Dra. Endang Muryani, M.Si., and the Head of Public Health Division of the West Java Provincial Health Office, drg. Ema Rahmawati, MKM, along with government officials from Sumedang Regency and KPA Sumedang.
Through the organization of this World AIDS Day commemoration, HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives in Sumedang are expected to be strengthened, emphasizing promotive and preventive approaches rooted in humanistic perspectives. (Reporter: Muhammad Fadhlurrahman Khoolish)*
