[Unpad.ac.id, 22/04/2016] Two students of Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) Unpad, Wisam Rizqullah and Elizabeth was awarded as Best Presenter in 1st International Conference on Forensic Sciences, Forensic Medicine & Criminology (Infomec 2016). The conference was held by Faculty of Health and Life Sciences Management and Science University Malaysia on 19-20 April 2016.
Wisam and Elizabeth achieved the award for their presentation papers. Wisam presented a paper entitled “Description of Pawon-man’s Maxillary and Mandibular Cortical Bone Thickness and Density with 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography Imaging”, while the title for Elizabeth’s paper was “Age Estimation of Pawon Man with Teeth Identification using Johanson Method through CBCT 3D Radiograph”.
Besides Wisam and Elizabeth’s, there were other six chosen papers to be presented in the event, papers of FKG undergraduate students Atikah Mawardhani Putri, Natasha Carolina, Amalina, Jihan Kamilah, and Georgiana Marsya, as well as a one FKG graduate student, drg. Rahmadaniah. Their papers were chosen after a series of selection process including papers from other students from around the world.
The students were accompanied and under direct guidance of Forensic Odontology FKG Unpad Lecturer Team with Coordinator/Head of Forensic Odontology Science FKG Unpad, drg. Fahmi Oscandar M.Kes, Sp.RKG and his staffs, drg. Yuti Malinda M.M, M.Kes, drg. Dewi Zakiawati, and drg. Yurika Ambar Lita.
Besides academic paper presentation, the students and lecturers delegation also participated in other Infomec 2016 activities, attending plenary lecture and poster presentation. The lecturers were also conducting oral presentation at the conference. In the same event, drg. Fahmi Oscandar M.Kes, Sp.RKG was appointed as Keynote Speaker of Forensic Odontology, by invitation of Vice President Medical & Health Science MSU, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zahedi Daud.
This first International Forensic Science Conference was a forum to share expertise and experience for global experts in the field of forensic medicine, forensic science, law professionals, and criminologists. This conference was the first forensic science conference held in the world.
“This is a scientific meeting supporting the advancement of forensic fields, especially forensic odontology in certain relation to dentistry. We hope for all our presented research to be pioneers in the field of forensic odontology, “said Dean of FKG Unpad, Dr.drg. Nina Djustiana M.Kes.
Furthermore, she stated that with participation, students were expected to become more experienced, knowledgeable, open-minded, and considerate of all areas of science, instead of just focused on only dentistry. Forensic progress could now be facilitated by advanced technologies such as the use of radiography apparatus 3D CBCT.
“With invitation for students to present at Infomec 2016, we are very proud and supportive, hoping that this achievement could be repeated and serve as motivation for their juniors in the same field. Moreover, FKG Unpad will cooperate with MSU in the field of education and teaching, research, and PPM, “she said.*
