[Unpad.ac.id, 24/05/2016] Many ideas and policies produced by Chairman of PDI-Perjuangan, Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, could provide valuable contribution for academics due to its originality. Leadership and consistency of Megawati in political science and government has also inspired the nation next generation.
It was stated by Rector Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, during press conference of awarding Honoris Causa Doctor to Megawati Soekarnoputri in Executive Lounge Unpad, JLn. Dipati Ukur 35 Bandung, Tuesday (24/05). On Wednesday 25 May2016, Unpad will award Honoris Causa doctor in Politics and Government Science for Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri in Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jln. Dipati Ukur 35 Bandung.
Attending as speakers in the press conference were Head of Honoris Causa Doctor Awarding Promotion team, Prof. Dr. Obsatar Sinaga, MSi., one of her class contemporaries in Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, Prof. Dr. Nurpilihan Bafdal and Iwan Abdurrahman, as well as Head of DPP PDI Perjuangan, Dr. Andreas Pareira.
“Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) Unpad has conducted analysis for Megawati’s ideas and found original academics value, which would be presented in the academic review by promoting team. Another point of consideration is the emotional connection between Megawati and Unpad,” said Rektor.
Megawati Soekarnoputri was a student of Agricultural Engineering of Faculty of Agriculture Unpad from 1965 until 1967. At that time, the campus was located in Jln. Maulana Yusuf Bandung. But due to the national political situation, Megawati was unable to continue her study and moved back to Jakarta. In her political career, Megawati Soekarnoputri led PDI Perjuangan until now, became the Vice President of Indonesia (1999-2001), and became Indonesia 5th President in 2001-2004.
Prof. Dr. Obsatar Sinaga, MSi., the Head of Promoting Team who is Professor of FISIP Unpad, stated that his team has found several Megawati ideas and policies that have strong influence for political science and truly provide strong influence even until recent government. “We fully believe that academically Megawati is qualified to receive Honoris Causa Doctor,” said Prof. Obsatar.
Meanwhile Head of DPP PDI Perjuangan, Dr. Andreas Pareira said that on behalf of Megawati they extend their gratitude for Unpad on the award. “This is not only about an honorary award. This is the encounter of practitioners and academics. The leadership model of Megawati has received awards from the honorable academics, from Universitas Padjadjaran, a campus where Megawati once studied,” said Dr. Andreas Pareira.
Iwan Abdurrahman and Prof. Dr. Nurpilihan Bafdal recount their memory of being in the same class with Megawati for a semester in 1965. In their view, Megawati was a diligent and smart figure.” So Megawati was not able to complete her study not because of her academic inability but due to the unfortunate political condition at that year,” said Prof. Dr. Nurpilihan who is now Professor of Faculty of Agricultural Industry Technology Pertanian (FTIP) Unpad. *
