[Unpad.ac.id, 28/06/2016] Five students of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Padjadjaran, Nunuy Nuraeni, Ulfi Ainun Hanifah, Haifa Albiyola Rafa, Diana Nurachmah F, and Dian Elok held training of First Aid for Traffic Accident (Pendekar) as community engagement program in Desa Sayang, Jatinangor, Sumedang Regency. This training was conducted three times during June 2016, on the11, 12, and 18 June 2016. This program aimed to train people to be quicker in responding and attending traffic accident victim.
“Traffic accidents often happened in Jatinangor. One of the location with most accidents is Desa Sayang, Jatinangor, since the roads are still in poor condition, making it dangerous for those who pass the street.

Many accidents occurred especially during rainfall because the holes on the street are covered with water causing motorcycle to miss them,” said Ulfi.
Shall accident occurred, most people are aware of what actions they should take. Therefore, the team conducted training for first aid for accident victims. Goals of the program are for Pendekar program to reach all Desa Sayang residents, ƒor all village administrative staffs, Kader Posyandu from wallet 1 to wallet 13, youth group, Linmas, toddlers teachers, TPA, elementary school, vocational school, as well as local residents.
In this program, they provided training of treatment in the mild cases such as cramps and sprains, and the more severe cases requiring basic life support such as CPR. Moreover, they also conducted training to perform transport and evacuation, as well as training on victim splinting fractures.
“Since in the first world country first aid is taught to everyone, even children, with the intention that every person is responsive to other individual case,” said Ulfi.
In addition to exposure of the material given by five of these students, trainees are also given training modules compiled by the team under the guidance of the lecturers of the faculty. In this activity, the participants were evaluated, including evaluation of the action and the written form of pre-test and post-test.
“From results of written evaluation, the results have significantly increased, judging from the level of knowledge. Evaluation of measures also increased significantly, from complete unawareness to full understanding of how to deal with the accident victim. Initially they were afraid but after the training they now have the courage to perform first aid, “said Nunuy.
In the future, this team will continue the monitoring to determine the program’s success. Hopefully, participants who have followed this training can provide regular distribution to other people who have not been trained. At the end of the training, the team donated a number of tools splints and stretchers for Desa Sayang.
“Hopefully this training can provide many benefits to people as well as knowledge acquired by residents in training can be distributed to other residents so that they can become more responsive handling each individual case,” said Ulfi. *
