Palawa Unpad For Padjadjaran Nemangkawi Expedition 2016

[Unpad.ac.id, 27/07/2016] 10 student members of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Palawa Universitas Padjadjaran will conduct “Padjadjaran Nemangkawi Expedition 2016” in August and September 2016. The expedition aims to introduce the model of zero waste climbing mountaineering as well as mapping education in Papua.

Poster Ekspedisi Padjadjaran Nemangkawi 2016In a press release received by Unpad PR, zero waste mountaineering model is climbing mountain with supplies that potentially generate a minimum even nil waste. It is based on a phenomenon that many piles of garbage are left by mountain climbers. On this expedition, Palawa Unpad Team will implement Zero Waste Mountaineering climb to the highest peak in Indonesia, Puncak Carstenz.

Meanwhile the education mapping is undertaken in the form of data collection to collect data abou Ugimba low literacy in the village, not far from Puncak Carstensz, Papua. Data retrieval is done to encourage development of alternative education without leaving the original tradition for the people in the village Ugimba.

Through zero waste implementation and literacy mapping, this expedition is expected to review a lot of phenomena of Adventure and Education in Papua. The name “Nemangkawi” is based on the name is Puncak Carstenz original name. The name is derived from the Amungme, the oldest tribes that inhabit the foothills of the Jaya Wijaya, to refer to the highest peak there. To that end, the team took this name with the intention of re-introducing Nemangkawi name in Indonesian society.

The expected result of this expedition is production of books and movies about Zero Waste Mountaineering and educational phenomena in the village Ugimba. All of these results will be presented in the seminar Padjadjaran Nemangkawi Expedition 2016 as the closing activity. *
