[Unpad.ac.id, 7/09/2016] Universitas Padjadjaran lost one of the renowned Professors, from the Faculty of Agriculture Faperta. On Wednesday, September 7, 2016, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aos M. Akyas, Professor Emeritus in Horticulture, passed away in Bandung at 75. A week earlier, Prof. (Em). Dr. Ir. Rasjid Sukarja, also from Faperta deceased at 86.
“In short time, Unpad lost another Professor. Today, Prof. Aos M. Akyas departed. During his time, we could see how strong his character was in strengthening academic development for the alma mater. I wish he could be a role model for us who are still working,” said Unpad Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, in his farewell speech after prayer at Masjid Al Jihad Unpad, Jln. Dipati Ukur, Wednesday (7/09).
Prof. Aos M. Akyas left a wife, Atit Hendaryati, and three children, Windyasari, Benny Adyaksa, and Vinny Avianty. During his tenure in Unpad, Prof. Aos M. Akyas held several positions that include Head of Center for Biological Diversity Research and Development Unpad Research Center, Head of the Department of Agricultural Cultivation Faperta Unpad, and he also received awards such as “Parama Bhoga Nugraha” from Minister of Food and Horticulture in October 1999.
After prayer, his body was buried at the Mekar Wangi Cemetery in Jln. Moh. Toha Bandung. Also present, Unpad 10th Rector, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia, 9th Rector,, Prof. Himendra Wargahadibrata, and 7th Rector, Prof. Yuyun Wirasasmita, other Unpad officials, his colleagues, and family members.*
