[Unpad.ac.id, 26/10/2016] In developing the infrastructure in Indonesia, a big challenge not only comes from the technical aspect. According to Rector Universitas Padjadjaran Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, the biggest challenge, however, lies in the social aspect.

“This is a role that must be carried out by us as a college, which is intrinsically interdisciplinary also actually could not inseparable,” said Rector in the event the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) and Media Indonesia Goes to Campus” Indonesia Building: Challenges of Infrastructure Development in Indonesia “at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jln. Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Wednesday (26/10).
Rector also gave an example of current construction of Jatigede Dam. Once the dam is operated, not technical problems encountered, but rather how these dams utilized, and how it impacts on people who once lived there.
To face these challenges, Rector also stressed the importance of the involvement of a variety of disciplines to provide reinforcement and welfare in infrastructure development in Indonesia. This involvement is important from preparation of development, the implementation of development, until the utilization of infrastructure.
“Do not let infrastructure built yet we do not know how to use it. And that we have to think of now. It often happens,” said Rector.
Meanwhile, Head of Research Development Ministry PUPR Dr. Ir. Danis Hidayat said that the challenges and issues related to infrastructure development faced today are complicated. Starting from a decrease in the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) from rank 34 in 2015 to rank 37 in 2016, up to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which requires the construction of infrastructure in accordance with the standards of ASEAN.
To answer these challenges, including the necessary human resources who are competent, innovative, and qualified for the success PUPR infrastructure development.
“Students, as the younger generation successor and the leader of the nation in the future must have a function to synergize resources and as an enabler that is able to develop the potential of her,” said Dr. Danis who on that occasion was attending to present and reading the speech of the Minister PUPR.
Indonesia’s infrastructure development would be achieved with the support of all parties, including government, private, and community. “Let us together to create Indonesia’s development,” said Dr. Danis.
