[Unpad.ac.ia, 30/11/206] Lingkung Seni Sunda Universitas Padjadjaran (Lises Unpad), Student Activity Unit engaged in the preservation of Arts and Culture in, performed their end of year performance of “Gondang Badingkut” in Basketball Court Bale Santika Unpad, Jatinangor (26/11). This festive performances was directed by famous Dalang Kang Apep U.S. Hudaya S.Sos.

This event was held to reintroduce the traditional arts of endangered West Java’s culture due displacement by foreign cultures. Gondang is beating the traditional arts of lisung with halu (tool to pounding rice) that was held on the harvest feast and the scene of a gathering place for the villagers. While “badingkut” is a fabric composed by several pieces of small-sized fabric colors and different pictures.
Unique and entertaining story that also educative managed to attract thousands of spectators. In the first session, the event attracted 1,330 students, and the second session managed to bring 235 public and students.
The enthusiasm of the audience became source of happiness for the cast and director of the show. “Lises performances this time is different to the previous years, because not only dance and drama are displayed, but gondang too to show that melodic sound with a satisfactory results,” said Kang Apep.

Kang Apep added that gondang has significance for the culture of West Java because gondang is a tool that is always present in a variety of community activities Sunda. But this time, gondang is rarely found. With reappointed of gondang art, it is hoped the public know and to know the culture there.
The response from the audience was no less encouraging for Lises Unpad, “Lises performances this time is very exciting, funny. The story is also interesting. As young children, we need to preserve our own culture,” said one of the students of SMPN 2 Cileunyi who has watched these performances until the end.
The next year, Lises unpad will continue to work and introduce the cultures of West Java so that culture can always conserved among the present generation. *
