[Unpad.ac.id, 1/12/2016] Indonesia Constitutional Law Expert, also Professor at the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, Prof. (Emeritus) Dr. H.R.T. Sri Soemantri Martosoewignjo, SH, MH., Has passed away at the age of 90 years, on Wednesday (30/11). The passing of Prof. Sri Soemantri has not only left a deep sorrow for Unpad academic community, but also the entire Indonesian nation.

Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad said that the deceased was a exemplary academics. This is seen from his utmost dedication. His excellent is not only within the context of higher education institutions, but also in life activity.
“Examples of Prof. Sri Soemantri journey of life had provide a strong pillar for the existence of Unpad, so we jointly believe Unpad as a university that always develop laws and the environment for the benefit of society,” said the Rector during his speech in the memorial at Masjid Al Jihad Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, Thursday (1/12).
After the final tribute ceremony, he was taken to his final resting place in Muslim cemetery Cikutra Bandung. Nearly half a century serving in Unpad, his scientific path and devotion, Prof. Sri Soemantri was expected to be an inspiration and energy Unpad academic community in the future.
“We believe that in the coming years, this nation will still have another Sri Soemantri. This as a manifestation of our respect to the person and the struggle that had he run,” said Rector.
Prof. Sri Soemantri track record was fairly long. Born in Tulungagung, 15 April 1926 Professor Sri Soemantri has been active in the government. At the age of 29, he was recorded to be the youngest of the Constituent Member in Indonesian parliamentary government, in 1956-1959.
In addition, he was also a Member of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) (Year 1993-1998), Chairperson of the Constitutional Commission (2003-2004), to the Advisory Board Member of the Commission until his death. The deceased is also the founding figures of the Indonesian Nationalist Students Movement (GMNI).
In the order of academic, Prof. Sri Soemantri served as Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Law, Unpad (1964-1966), Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Unpad during the second period, as well as gaining Professorship of Constitutional Law Faculty, Unpad in 1987. He was also active in developing other private university, among others serving as as Rector University 17 Agustus and Universitas Jayabaya. Various of his book have been published. The deceased also received a lot of awards, both from Universitas Padjadjaran, government, until the renowned institution.
Deep sorrow of the colleagues of the deceased was apparent. Professor of Law Faculty, Prof. Dr. Bagir Manan, SH, MCL., also expressed his condolences in the ceremony. For Prof. Bagir, the deceased is an exemplary figure who has devoted himself to the development of law in Indonesia.
“Prof. Sri Soemantri, I stand here as a student. I thank you for all of knowledge, the ideals, the integrity that you have taught us, “said Prof.Bagir Manan.
Met after the memorial service, a national figure who was also alumni Unpad, Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, said that Prof. Sri Soemantri is a teacher for the Indonesian nation. The passing of Prof. Sri Soemantri is also a challenge for Unpad to continue applying the teachings and knowledge to build a state based on the constitution.
“Unpad must still be the University referred in the Constitutional science,” said Ferry. *
