Independent Nursing Practice Can Expand More in Indonesia

[Unpad.ac.id, 3/12/2016] Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) encouraged nurses to improve competitiveness in facing the era of the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA). One of the efforts is to manage independent nursing practice. However, this has not been conducted by nurses in Indonesia.

Yanti Budiyanti, S.Kp., Ners., as a pioneer of independent nursing clinic “Green Care” said that the slow increase in the opening of an independent nursing practice was caused by the reluctance of nurses in opening an independent practice, in addition to the lack of understanding of the procedures and legal aspects of opening an independent nursing practice.

“There is no nurse who started opening independent practices. If we don’t start, how could other nurses will be motivated? “said Yanti as a speaker in “National Seminar on Nursing 2016: Independent Nursing Practice To Face MEA”, held in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Nursing Unpad Unpad Teaching Hospital, Jalan Eijkman No. 38, Bandung, Saturday (3/12).

Independent nursing practice has been protected Law, Law No. 38 of 2014. Under the Act it was mentioned that nursing practice is an organized nursing services in the form of nursing care, which is a series of nursing care nurse interaction with clients and environment to achieve objectives and meet the needs of clients in the care of its independence.

Yanti said that nurses should have filled at least about 75% of total health professions in Indonesia. Each year, about 250,000 nurses graduated from 770 educational institutions nurse. Despite having a high number, distribution of nurses is uneven.

Based on her observations, the vast majority of nurses worked in hospitals and in the sphere of education. Only a few worked in the health center, clinic, or open an independent clinic. In addition, many nurses remained working in medical practice rather than in independent nursing sector.

“Nurses should have a solution that they can practice without clashing against other sectors,” said Yanti.

Although the risk for independent nursing would be directly related to the profession and the lives of patients, a nurse held authority. Yanti said that in an independent nursing practice, the nurse full responsibility is not only help patients, but also conduct the administrative management.

Furthermore she said that nurses could take many actions as long as they are still within the profession line. In practice, in order to guarantee quality services and safe practice of self besides escorted law, also escorted by a code of ethics, professional standards, and practice standards.

As a nurse with 15 years of independent nursing experience under her belt, Yanti said that currently there is the ease of obtaining permits independent nursing practice than a few years back.

Thus the requirements needed to open a practice consisted of existing nursing license License Terms Practice Nurse (SIPP), a place and the examination room, and vision, mission, scope of practice, and practice target.

Yanti added that the need for independent nursing practice consisted of various aspects, among other complementary practices, home care, wound care, skin care, pediatric care, palliative care, intensive care, mental nursing, maternity, and emergency care.

Meanwhile, Lecturer in Nursing Unpad who is also the owner of CV Rifa Cooperation, H. Iyus Yosep, S.Kp., M.Si., M.Sc., said that nurses can also run in business world. It is intended that the nurses could be more prosperous.

Iyus argued that the whole sector into learning media could be a field of nursing business. Nurses can also be a distributor of goods needs of the patient while being treated. It would be much more effective and efficient, rather than have to get it in stores outside the district hospital.

“Nurses cannot stand alone as a worker. We need to stand on the other path as well. If the nurse is creative, it will be much more prosperous, “said Iyus.

Besides Yanti and Iyus, the seminar opened by the Dean of Nursing Faculty Unpad, Kusman Ibrahim, S.Kp., M.NS., PhD, also featured five other speakers from academia, PPNI, and activists of independent nursing practice. The event was attended by 535 participants from all over Indonesia. *
