“We have the support system, not only in terms of physical infrastructure,” said Vedi R. Hadiz, Ph.D., of the University of Melbourne Australia when he became one of the speakers at the World Class Visiting Professor, titled “Turning Indonesia on Map Sciences world, Indonesia Scientists contribution to Motherland “in Bale Rucita, Rector Building Campus Jatinangor, Wednesday (21/12).

Therefore, in addition to the resources necessary to access a library or the recent literature, international research funding, and support facilities and other infrastructure, the most important thing is the system of internal institutional support. For example, the provision of wider opportunities for faculty to conduct research.

Moreover, in terms of individuals, Vedi also emphasized that to produce a research idea, cannot be done just by sitting down or silently looking for inspiration. Inspiration may arise from an effort that is underway. Inspiration could also emerge as result of being “impose” oneself to write.

“Maybe it is just trash. But it is better start with trash rather than start with zero. 100% of you wrote it, there might be 10%, which is not trash. And that will be the basis for developing a mind that you will probably be your contribution to the science,” said Vedi.

ceramah-dikti-3-tediThe other speaker, Dr. Ahmad Daryanto from Lancaster University Management School in the UK revealed that in addition to individual and institutional factors, other factors that encourage their international publications is the national factor.

“Several times I saw national factors being more significant than individual factors. There patriotism there, that we have to beat them (them from outside the country),” said Ahmad Daryanto.

Vedi R. Hadiz and Ahmad Daryanto are researchers from Indonesia, which has a lot of international experience. World Class Events Visiting Professor was moderated by Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Dr. R. Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata, and attended by a number of leaders, faculty, staff, and students of Universitas Padjadjaran. *
