Basic Workshop for Higher Education Public Relations

[unpad.ac.id, 10/23/2018] The existence of Public Relations Officers in Unpad is urgently needed in supporting the excellency of institution. This workshop was held in order to equip them with some basic knowledge and skills needed to fit recent challenges.

“The similar understanding of their duties and functions is required so that they become professional and competence,” said Director of Human Resources, Drs. Gatot Riwi Setyanto, M.Sc., in the opening of the Basic Workshop for Higher Education PR in the Meeting Room with the Unpad Rectorate Building, Jatinangor, Monday (10/22).

The Workshop was attended by 37 PR staffs who were appointed based on the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Decree through inpassing. The workshop consisted of four sessions, with speakers from a number of lecturers and PR practitioners in Unpad.

The first session speaker was delivered by the Head of Unpad Public Communication Office, Ade Kadarisman, M.T., M.Sc. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of critical thinking and courage to be open minded of the PR. In addition, PR as an information agent requires synergy and coordination in order to implement policies.

“Build the right interpersonal relationships and never be afraid to express ideas for progress in the future,” said Ade.

The second speaker, Chairman of the Unpad Public Relations Study Program Dr. Susie Perbawasari. Dr. Susie said, the core of public relations functions to foster good relations between all components in an institution. The public relations function of universities is always required to be professional in managing information to realize a positive image of an institution.

The third session was delivered by a lecturer of the Faculty of Communication Unpad, Trie Damayanti, M.Sc. She explained, the role of PR is increasingly important and strategic. “In addition to being a communicator, the PR acts as a proactive mediator in bridging the interests of the institution and accommodating aspirations and paying attention to its public desires,” Trie said.

Furthermore, at the last session the participants received debriefing related to press release writing techniques and news from other communication lecturer, Aat Ruchiat Nugraha, M.Sc. *
