Overcome Food Waste, Unpad Students Awarded for a Sustainable Food Supply Awards in India

Isfari Dinika, Timothy Darmanto Wijaya, Florensia Irena, Fasya Utba, and Dalih Dwi Hadiyan, Food Technology students who is part of the “Padjadjaran Food Research” team, won the annual event attended by number of students from all over the world.

In this competition, the team guided by Robi Andoyo, Ph.D., said the idea related to the utilization of food waste to be processed into edible films to be used as packaging material.

The idea came to answer the problems related to the high level of food waste generated from household and restaurant consumption. Food waste has the potential to pollute the environment.

This idea is packaged in the theme “the Potential of Indonesia Food Waste”. This concept innovation is expected to solve food security issues and be able to answer the challenges of sustainability for the future.

The presentation of this idea was delivered in the form of a video that shows the implications of food science and technology advancement for human welfare. The video shows a variety of case studies in several countries.

This winner is the first award for students of Unpad Food Technology study program at the international level. This achievement is expected to encourage students to actively compete at national, regional and international levels.

This competition is part of a series of international conferences “The 19th IUFoST World Food Science and Technology Congress”. This year, the competition has the theme “Strengthen the Global Voice for Food Science and Technology for the Benefit of Humanity”. *

This award is the first award of students of the Food Technology Study Program of Unpad in the international competition and is expected to be the trigger for another achievements in the future.
