[Unpad.ac.id, 22/11/2012] Agro-industry sector can be a fairly big potential creative economy. It is characterized by many sectors that have not been worked out and developed. One of the reasons is the human resources are not so many, especially the students who work on the sector in order to become a business potential of the creative economy.

“West Java has about 250 colleges. It’s the great potential needed for the creative-based industries continue to emerge. Therefore, we will always push the potency of the creative industries in the field of the Agro-industry,” said Dr. Ferry Sofwan Arif, M.Sc., the Head of Industry and Trade of West java, while delivering a presentation at the National Seminar on “Economic Developmen of Agro-industry Sector through Creative Technology Optimization”, Thursday (22/11) at Bale Sawala, Rector Building Unpad, Jatinangor.
He thought that the potency could be done by the students who have a high presentation, about 36% of the population of West Java. He was optimistic that the students could develop this potency. “In the hands of the students, the Agro-industries can be a creative industry. It is because the students are able to think out of the box and don’t do things in a conventional way,” he explained.
The emergence of the culinary products in West Java is a proof that the creativity of the young generation continues to grow. Ferry said the creative industry would always come up with something new. It was a part of a high competition in the market that encourages the doers to look for something new that was not the same as the other products. This would make the creative industries in West Java develop rapidly through the creative industries in the field of design, fashion, animation, crafts and art, as well as culinary products based on agro-industry.
One of the speakers who are also plunging in the agro-industry, Andris Wijaya said the key to developing the agro-industry lies on the students. The rice products owner of Liwet Instan 1001 said that the initial orientation of the college students was usually in a search of a work. There were a very few serious students who enter an entrepreneurship world. That matter was not an obstacle to continually developing the creative industries, because basically both of working and entrepreneurship had a hand in the development of a creative industries in West Java.
Andris also told about his experience on developing his business. It started from a rice business. He was thinking how to produce a new product from the rice industry, considering that the same businesses were so many. He was encouraged by a desire to produce a product that could be a souvenir for the tourists, so Andri made the brand of Nasi Liwet Instan 1001.
“The point is not to be afraid to do an entrepreneurship due to the fear of failure. Failure is not the end of everything, but it is the beginning of a success,” said Andris who ever awarded of Jabar Innovation Award 2012.
The national seminar from the Faculty of Industrial Technology of Agriculture (FTIP) Unpad was held as a series of the activities of FTIP Fair 2012. Beside Ferry and Andris, this seminar was also presented by two other speakers, namely M. Andy Zacky (The CEO of PT Technopreneur) and Dr. Samsudin Ir. M.Sc., (The Researcher of Industrial Crops Research and Freshener Institute). It was officially opened by the 3rd Vice Dean of FTIP Unpad, Bambang Nurhadi, S.TP., M.Sc.. The seminar was expected to provide knowledge and understanding for the students to develop the creative economy in the sector of agro-industry. *
