Vice Governor of West Java and Unpad Rector Send Off 1,473 Students for Community Service Program

[Unpad Media Channel] A total of 1,473 Universitas Padjadjaran students are participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) for the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, taking place from July to August 2025. The official send-off ceremony is held at the Rectorate Building Courtyard in Jatinangor on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025, led by Vice Governor of West Java, H. Erwan Setiawan, S.E., and Unpad Rector Prof. Arief Sjamsulaksan Kartasasmita. The symbolic send-off was marked by the Vice Governor and the Rector putting on the university blazers for selected student representatives.

In his remarks, the Vice Governor, Erwan, expressed appreciation to Unpad for its continued commitment to conducting KKN activities across West Java. He emphasized that KKN is not only a platform for students to gain real-world learning experience, but also a means to empower communities and contribute to village development.

“The time may be short, but I hope the students approach this program with sincerity. Leave a positive impression in your assigned villages, integrate with the community, and apply the knowledge you’ve gained from campus directly in the field,” said Erwan.

He also welcomes the KKN theme chosen by Unpad, which focuses on highly relevant and strategic issues for West Java, such as stunting and food security, climate change, waste management, as well as socio-cultural changes and the development of the creative economy.

Erwan reminded students to always uphold ethical behavior and the reputation of their alma mater, and to carry themselves as humble and integrity-driven academic individuals. He emphasized that KKN marks not an end, but a beginning of students’ role as agents of change.

This year’s KKN activities are aligned with several goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Zero Hunger and Food Security (SDG 2), Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth through the Creative Economy (SDG 8), Sustainable Cities and Waste Management (SDG 11), Responsible Consumption and Social-Cultural Transformation (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17)

In his speech, teh Rector of Unpad Prof. Arief stated that the students will be deployed to 67 villages or urban wards in nine regencies/cities across West Java. The program is an important opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge to address real-world challenges in communities. Unlike in previous years, all Unpad KKN participants in 2025 are now covered by the national employment insurance program BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

“Learning from the community is an essential part of preparing students for the future. May all of our efforts bring blessings, provide benefit to society, and contribute to the progress of West Java and Indonesia,” said the Rector.

During the event, several institutional partners symbolically handed over their support for the program. Support was provided by the Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Bandung Suci Branch Opik Taufik, the Head of BPJS Kesehatan Suci Branch Moch. Faisal, the Head of Health Resources Division, West Java Provincial Health Office Drg. Juanita Patricia Fatima, M.K.M., and the Key Account Manager of Pepsodent Dadan Budiman.
