Kananga Elementary Students Learn How to Cultivate and Preserve Nature with KPAR and Klintan Unpad

[Unpad.ac.id, 10/12/2012] Agriculture is considered as the most important in human life. Knowing this, Group for Children and Teenager Care (KPAR) Faculty of Psychology and Plant Clinic (Klintan) Faculty of Agriculture Unpad organized an event on cultivating in Calakan Farm, Ciparanje Jatinangor last Saturday (9/12).

Bringing a them Back to Nature, Team Klintan gave a brief training on monocotyledon and dicotyledon and how to plant mustard. “Calakan Farm is a student business unit for export. The farm is suitable for training due to its wide variety of plants. We can introduce them to the children,” said Ferdian Ardi, the head of team Klintan.

The children were taught to use fertilizer, mix it with the soil and put them in the plastic cup they had brought. “We had them bring used plastic cups to be used as the medium for planting. We’re also trying to teach them how to recycle. Loving the nature from early on.”

Each child was given one seed for them to plant. They were then asked to harvest the mustard in a green house at the farm. Knowing that they could bring what they had harvested home, the children were very enthusiastic despite the dirt.

The event continued with a quiz. Those who could answer the questions right were entitled to bring a gift, a butterfly specimen in a glass box. The children became more excited at finding out the surprising gifts.

Alga Delima Putra, the division head of Klintan Community Service, argued that the event “would let the children be aware of the importance of planting for their future.”
