[Unpad.ac.id, 1/06/2016] To promote development in rural areas, especially in West Java, leadership and community participation are needed. This effort could be done in the presence of brain gain actors as a form of the new leaders.
“To support in rural areas, brain gain actors are needed,” said Program Study Coordinator of Agribusiness Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, Dr. Iwan Setiawan as speaker in seminar “Rural Leadership in Community Development” in Bale Sawala Rectorate Building Unpad Jatinangor, Wednesday (1/06).
Dr. Iwan said that effort of village leadership in West Java has been done since 1990s. Until now it has undergone various development and is expected to produced leadership regeneration
Besides Dr. Setiawan, this seminar was opened by Vice Rector for Research, Community Engagement, Cooperation, Innovation, and Business Dr. Keri Lestari, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. The speakers were R. Firman Nurtafiyana (Head of Community Economic Empowerment (PEM) Community Empowerment and Village Government Board of West Java Province), Jennifer Wainwright (ARLP Rep. Founder and Managing Director of Aux Venture), and Peter McCrabb (ARLP Rep. Owner and Manager North Bundy Pastoral Company, Australian Wool Innovation).
The seminar was held in cooperation with Directorate of Research and Community Engagement, Universitas Padjadjaran, Department of Social Economics, Universitas Padjadjaran Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Public Health Sciences Unpad with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF). This activity was also the last series of the Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) carried out since May 30, 2016.
In addition to describing rural leadership in Indonesia, these seminars also provided description of leadership in the Australian countryside. On the occasion, Jennifer Wainwright presented a presentation concerning the financing of agribusiness in rural Australia, and Peter McCrabb spoke about the involvement of youth in agriculture, especially the wool industry in New South Wales, Australia. *
