[Unpad.ac.id, 19/09/2016] German Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Science, Universitas Padjadjaran in collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Germanists (AGI) and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) organized a series of scientific activities at Unpad, on 13- 20 September 2016. The series is an AGI’s routine held every three years since 2010, and Unpad is the third host after similar events held in Yogyakarta and Malang.

The event included International Seminar on German Studies entitled “Contemporary Trends of Researches on German Studies” held on 13-15 September 2016, a public lecture on children’s and young adult’s literature on 16 September 2016, children’s literature translation training on 19-20 September 2016 in Bale Atikan Unpad Training Center (UTC) Jl. Ir. H. Juanda No. 4 and in Hall of Center for Japanese Studies, Jatinangor.
The seminar was opened by the Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, and attended by the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia, Federal Republic of Germany Ambassador represented by the Consulate of Culture and Communications, Director of the Office of German Academic Exchange, Regional Office in Indonesia, Director of German Cultural Center Goethe Institute, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Science, Universitas Padjadjaran, Head of Association of Indonesian Germanists ( AGI), Director of German Centre Jakarta, Director of Indonesia Studienkolleg, Prof. Dr. Hans-Heino Ewers of Johann Wolfgang Goethe Frankfurt am Main Germany, as well as invited guests and participants coming from Germany, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
A total of 80 participants attended the seminar where they presented various themes of contemporary researches in the field of didactic method, linguistics, literature, culture, translation, as well as perspectives on Germaness related to other disciplines. As the Rector pointed out in his opening statement that the study of language, literature, and culture has to be interdisciplinary. German Literature Study Program has identified the importance of interdisciplinary studies and has implanted the method not only in the scientific is importance of science is indeed already realized long ago by the German Literary Studies Program so that it is also applicable not only in scientific project, but also in the curriculum and learning activities.

Meanwhile, Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia, Dr. Yvonne Baumann also gave her opening remark on German language in multicultural and multilingual country such as Switzerland. Prof. Dr. Hans-Heino Ewers also spoke at the event on children’s and young adult’s literature. The first day of the international seminar was closed with the DAAD alumni gathering from Unpad and other places in Indonesia. On the next day, speeches on German Language Teaching in Vietnam and Thailand, as well as on the German literary and cultural studies in Indonesia were delivered.
The international seminar was closed with excursion tracing German people in Indonesia; one of whom was Junghuhn. The event was followed by a angklung workshop at Saung Angklung Udjo. This activity was carried out to expand the perspectives and intensify intercultural dialogue and strengthen friendly relation and cooperation network with experts on Germaness from Indonesia and other countries, particularly from Southeast Asia. *
