[Unpad.ac.id, 22/11/2016] Universitas Padjadjaran mourns another loss of its great and well-respected professor. Professor of Faculty of Arts (FIB), Prof. Dr. Dudih Amir Zuhud, Dipl., Tefl., M.A., passed away at the age of 77 at Santosa Hospital, Bandung on Monday November 21, 2016 at 09.30 p.m. An official memorial service was held at Masjid Al Jihad Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur, No. 35, Bandung and attended by Unpad Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, members of faculty, family, friends, and students on Thursday (22/11).

“He was both a dedicated professor and a respected teacher to all of us. He had shown sincerity in teaching. Almost all of us have had the chance to interact with him for educational purposes, even though we’re not from the same field,” as Rector giving his speech at the ceremony.
Prof. Dudih was a Professor of Linguistics at the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Unpad. In 2003, two months after receiving his Doctoral Degree from Unpad, Prof. Dudih was named the first Professor from English Program.
Rector wished that the determination in education and breath of life Prof. Dudih had given to be passed on to the next generation. This year, the faculty had lost three great professors, Prof. Dr. Jus Badudu, Prof. Dr. Moch Tadjudin, and Prof. Dr. Dudih A. Zuhud.
“I believe that he would be very proud of his students for showing dedication, commitment and striving not only for the institution, but also to the nation, more than he had given,” said Rector.
Prof. Dudih was born in Banjarsari, September 14, 1939. His passion and expertise in language had been proven since he was young. He indulged himself in reading wawacan (Sundanese tales in the form of Canto) both in Latin and pegon (Javanese Arabic) letters. During his studies at Sekolah Guru Bawah (School for Teaching Training) in the 1950s, he had commanded fluent Sundanese, Indonesian, and English.
“His brightness in language made him a dramatic writer for his class performance, as well as a poet of themes, such as life, nature, and personal experiences,” said Dean of FIB Unpad, Yuyu Yohana Risagarniwa, Ph.D., when reading Prof. Dudih’s biography.
Prof. Dudih graduated from English Program Unpad in 1968 and started teaching at the Department since. He also served as Secretary of Program, Head of Program, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, and Executive of Faculty of Arts.
Besides teaching, he also wrote poems vigorously. in 2015, his book of poems, Merayakan Hidup (Celebrating Life) was launched.
Also present in the ceremony, heads of executive of Unpad, lecturers, administration staff members, friends, students, and family biding adieu to Prof. Dudih. He was rested at the Public Cemetery Cimuncang, Padasuka, Bandung. *
