[Unpad.ac.id, 19/11/2016] Developing arts should be done in systematic and institutional way, rather than relying on an individual base. The government’s role is indispensable through policies that could be turned art.

“We should no longer talk about the people. We have to talk about the system. We are talking about institutions, and in that way we would expect that this art can continue to grow,” said the Unpad Professor and Prof. Ganjar Kurnia in Book Discussion and Launching “Viatikara: from Bandung to the World” in Bale Rumawat Unpad, Jln. Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Friday (18/11).
At the event, Prof. Ganjar discussed his appreciation for this book written by Mahpudi and Enton Supriyatna. This book is a biography of Viatikara art group, showing the history of the development from the beginning of Viatikara formation, including the development of Sundanese art creativity.
According to Prof. Ganjar, books related to the development of arts organizations are very rare, including books relating to the history of art. Through this book, it can be known that Sundanese people’s creativity in art has never been not extinguished. Sundanese art creativity has been shown at least since the 1960s, during the time the arts group Viatikara has already been acknowledged internationally existence.
“With this book deserves our appreciation together,” said this tenth Rector of Unpad.
Prof. Ganjar was sad to see the current existence Viatikara in Bandung not as rapid as Viatikara developments in Surabaya. According to him, the idea to redevelop Viatikara in Bandung is very important. Viatikara must be able to be the entrance of the public who wish to enter the world of art tradition.
This activity also featured Sasmiyarsi Sasmoyo as the book discussant book. He also hoped to improve the existence of Viatikara Bandung, the need for “injection” of new generation, involving senior dancers who have a lot of experience as an advisor.
Viatikara is a dance group that has been formed since 1961. Unpad considered to be very close to where Viatikara because since its establishment, the board Viatikara dominated by Unpad students. Even Hall Unpad for several years has been the training ground Viatikara.
In addition to the discussion and launching, Viatikara in Unpad also filled with dance performances “Indonesian National Ballet Modern” at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jln. Dipati Ukur Bandung, Friday (18/11) night.
Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad also welcomes the convening of this activity in Unpad. Rector disclosed, that it has been an Unpad commitment to maintain the culture. Viatikara presence in various activities in Unpad is an inspiration and energy to strengthen the mission of Padjadjaran in preserving the culture.
Rector also said that the book “Viatikara” could be important for the next generation of media-related cultural history in Indonesia. Hopefully, the academic strength can give more color in this book. *
