Unpad.ac.id, 14/12/2016] Professor and also the 10th Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia, directed Gending Karesmen show “Ceurik Oma” by RH. Yana Sunarya. The show was performed at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, Wednesday (14/12).

Oma Ceurik play was performed by gending karesmen types, namely drama whose lines sang in style Cianjuran by the cast accompanied by excerpts of harp and flute. This show was produced by a Rumawat team, Disparbud West Java, Universitas Padjadjaran, Daya Mahasiswa Sunda Alumni Corps, as well as several cultural organizations in West Java.
The play told the story of Oma Ceurik’s life Nyi Rd. Oma when she became the wife of the regent of a region in the Residency Sunda. One day, her parent-in-law forced her to divorce the Regent Oma because she wasn’t descended from royal blood. Oma then went alone to leave everything behind.
Fate says differently that Oma then remarried a man who would become regent. Also, Oma’s former husband declined his ranks to become the duke of Regents.
Prof. Ganjar said that the play that was written in the mid-1900s is still relevant to the current era. “If we see dramas on television today, we can see how the in-law affairs, and it’s still happening today,” he said.
Therefore, this performance is expected to be a reflection primarily to the audience. Prof. Ganjar hoped that this play is not only appreciated by the audience but also provided learning experience.
“This performance may be so guidance. Hopefully we all had to leave things like that,” said Prof. Ganjar.
What’s interesting about this play is that most of the players are young. In fact, Prof. Ganjar said, there are players who are still attending junior high school. Even so, the quality of players is good. They all eloquently sang Cianjuran songs.
“In total we are training for three days. This play are their roles. They practice wearing exercise torn jeans, and who would have thought they are the singer of song,” said Prof. Ganjar.
The performance was attended by the academic community and the general public. Also present several lecturers, professors, and colleagues, Universitas Padjadjaran. *
