Faculty of Dentistry at Unpad Explores Collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry at Universiti Malaya

The visit of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Padjadjaran to the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, July 26th– 28th, 2024.*

[Unpad Media Channel] The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Padjadjaran conducts a benchmarking visit, collaboration, and community service to the Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Malaya that is held on July 26th – 28th, 2024.

The Faculty of Dentistry at Unpad, represented by the Department of Community Dentistry (Ilmu Kesehatan Gigi Masyarakat or IKGM), organizes a visit for benchmarking, research, exploring collaboration opportunities for an internship program in the Master’s program with a specialization in Community Dentistry, and community service.

On the first day, Friday (26/7/2924), the meeting discusses the exploration of an internship program for the Master’s program with a specialization in Community Dentistry, followed by research calibration activities for joint research.

The collaboration is also done in the form of research and Community Service that is held at Sentul Learning Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 28th – 29th July 2024.
This event is open by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Dr. Dudi Aripin, drg.,Sp.KG(K)., and the Head of the Clinical Prevention Department of the Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Malaya Dr. Marhazlinda Jamaludin.

“This event aims to improve the research collaboration and community service between two institutions.,” said the Head of the Dentistry Community Department Dr. Anne Agustina Suwargiani, drg., M.KM.

The research is done to obtain data baseline through the questionnaire on patterns of seeking dental and oral health treatment and examinations. Then, it will be used for dental and oral health maintenance interventions with a program model tailored to the needs of Indonesian adult migrants in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to improve their quality of life.

“This is a continuation of last year’s activities, which also produced output in the form of a scientific publication in a high-reputation journal,” added Anne.

The Faculty of Dentistry at Unpad also provides community service to Indonesian migrant residents. The professors and students conduct dental and oral examinations and collect data through questionnaires from the residents. The results can be used for dental and oral health maintenance interventions with a program model tailored to the needs of Indonesian migrant workers’ children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and can help prevent the early onset of dental and oral diseases.

The series of activities are led by the Department of Community Dental Health and involves faculty staff from both institutions, students from the professional program of FKG Unpad, as well as Master’s and Doctoral students from the Faculty of Dentistry at Universiti Malaya specializing in Community Dental Health. Moreover, the event is supported by the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia through the Education Attaché and funded by internal research grants from Unpad, as well as sponsored by Darmaga Sunda, Helion, and PT.
