[Unpad.ac.id, 2/05/2013] Unpad commemorated the National Education Day on Thursday (2/05) at the Rectorate Building front yard. Present in the commemoration ceremony were Unpad faculties, staff, and deans.

Leading the ceremony was the rector of Unpad, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia. He recited the Minister of National Education’s speech on quality improvement and equal access to education. Education, in his speech, was compared to a vaccine that could strengthen immune system. “Our constitution states that all Indonesian citizens are entitled to receiving proper education and the state is obligated to provide them with it,” said the rector.
The governments, both central and local, have been trying to provide equal education for its people statewide. Infrastructure development in disadvantaged regions is being extensively carried out, in addition to sending competent teachers to those areas. “This is in accordance with the principle of education as the basic right of all people without discriminating cultural background, social status and economic standing,” the rector added.
The program is equipped with scholarship endowment, School Operational Subsidy (BOS), State University Operational Subsidy (BOPTN), and funding assistance for students coming from financially unstable families. The minister of national education has allotted Rp. 7,8 billion for scholarship program in 2013.
“We make sure that there is no child left behind, all of them can pursue their education up to a higher degree,” he added. Speaking on the new curriculum 2013, the rector was optimistic that it would enable all individuals to pursue education despite their varying backgrounds.
