Lasman, Chosen as a Foreign Refugee Law and Human Rights Training Participant

[Unpad Media Channel] A student from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Padjadjaran, Lasman, is chosen as one of 13 participants in the Training on Law and Human Rights of Foreign Refugees, which is held by the Suaka Indonesia association in Jambi Guesthouse, Central Jakarta, April 19th – 23rd, 2023.

The Training on Law and Human Rights of Foreign Refugees is a premiere training held by Suaka Indonesia closely related to refugee management domestically and globally. Lasman is chosen as one of the participants, consisting of students and graduates from universities all over Indonesia. 

“This opportunity gives me a comprehensive understanding of refugee management,” said Lasman in the release achieved by Unpad Media Channel.

Lasman has to meet the strict requirements to be a part of training participants. First, the candidate has to write a motivation letter, then continue by answering and analyzing questions related to refugee management, attaching an achievements portfolio, even mastering English, and contributing actively to social activities. 

This training accommodates some substances and practical activities regarding refugee management, among them are refugees rights, national and international law about refugees, legal aid for refugees, granting refugees status, roles of community social organizations in the field of refugees, interactive discussion with refugees, gender protection for refugees, and role of youth through advocacy for refugee issues. 

Lasman continues that this training is formed with interactive teaching methods through study groups, focused group discussions, and individual and group presentations until working on the final project about advocacy for refugee issues. 

“This training activities is very helpful for me to comprehend refugee issues, considering the limited campus that teach refugee law course,” he said.

Previously, Lasman was also a student representing Indonesia in the Istanbul Youth Leaders Summit (IYLS) event in Istanbul, Turkey, 2022. While there, Lasman also talked about the efforts of Indonesia in solving refugee issues and the projection of international policy regarding refugee management in Indonesia. (released/SA)*
