[Unpad Media Channel] The Marine Science Student Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Ilmu Kelautan or Himaika) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Universitas Padjadjaran, conducted a community service activity in Mundupesisir Village, Mundu District, Cirebon Regency on Saturday, August 3-4, 2024. This community service was motivated by the significant potential in Mundupesisir Village, including its Mangrove Area.

“Mundupesisir Village is one of the areas with significant development potential, especially its mangrove area, which could become a major tourist attraction and draw many visitors if further developed. That’s why Himaika Unpad is here to help advance the region,” said Agam Rachmat, Chairman of the Marine Science Student Association at Unpad.

The community service activity in Mundupesisir Village was initiated by the Community Service Department of Himaika FPIK Unpad, which is responsible for designing and executing various community service programs. This department plays a crucial role in creating optimal conditions within the community, while also serving as a platform for Himaika members to make actual contributions to social activities.

“I hope this activity will be conducted annually so that Mundupesisir Village, as a Himaika Development Village, can maintain its environment and develop into a thriving maritime tourism village,” said Dhan Dhan, the Head of the Community Service Department.

On the first day, the event featured “Himaika Mengajar” with the theme “Growing Together with the Sea: Environmental Education and Creativity for Coastal Children.” Himaika provided material to students of SDN 3 Mundupesisir on the importance of maintaining cleanliness, particularly concerning waste issues, and fostering environmental awareness among coastal children to ensure the preservation of the sea.

On the second day, the activities continued with the mangrove planting event “Rangkul Desa” under the theme “Mangroves Save the Future.” This initiative aimed to support Mundupesisir Village in enhancing the potential of their mangrove forest through actual action, involving the planting of 300 mangrove seedlings. The goal is for the mangrove area in Mundupesisir Village to develop more optimally, serve as a natural barrier, and provide ecological and economic benefits to the local community.

Through this activity, Himaika FPIK Unpad hopes to make a lasting, real contribution to environmental preservation and the empowerment of coastal communities. In addition to providing direct positive impacts, the initiative aims to build ongoing environmental awareness and responsibility in Mundupesisir Village. (SA)*
