[Unpad Media Channel] Five professors from Universitas Padjadjaran actively participated in the Solanaceae (SOL) Conference 2024, held at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, from November 25th to 28th, 2024. This international conference brought together researchers and professionals from various countries to present their research through scientific posters.
The Unpad professors’ participation is part of the SATREPS project titled “The Project for Breeding Innovation in Chili Pepper and Tomato to Accelerate Sustainable Vegetable Production in Tropical Regions.” This project, a collaboration between Unpad and the University of Tsukuba, aims to strengthen academic ties and advance research in sustainable vegetable production.
The five professsors participating in the conference include Dr. Nono Carsono, PhD, the Principal Investigator (PI) of the SATREPS project from Indonesia, along with Farida Damayanti, PhD, Citra Bakti, PhD, Fitri Widintini, PhD, and Dr. Eliana Wulandari. Additionally, two doctoral candidates currently studying at the University of Tsukuba, Santika Sari from Unpad’s Faculty of Agriculture and Chotimatul Azmi from BRIN, also attended as part of the SATREPS project.
The SOL Conference 2024 was organized by the SOL2024 Committee with support from various institutions, including the Japan Solanaceae Consortium (JSOL), Japan’s MEXT National BioResource Project, and SATREPS. Focusing on Solanaceae crops such as chili peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, and bell peppers, the SOL Conference 2024 provided a platform to discuss various scientific topics, including genome technology, genetics, plant breeding, and industrial innovations. It also highlighted technologies such as omics, physiology, epigenetics, biotechnology, and the industrialization of Solanaceae research, particularly in developing countries.
In addition to poster presentations, the event featured oral presentations and discussions to expand research collaboration networks. Through its participation in the SOL Conference, Universitas Padjadjaran reaffirms its commitment to advancing global research through productive international collaborations. (Press Release/SA)*
