Celebrating Earth Day, Rector Officiated Bike Shelter Sepeda in Campus Unpad Jatinangor

[Unpad.ac.id, 24/04/2016] Universitas Padjadjaran received 25 units of bicycles from Bank Mandiri. These bicycles would be used as transportation of academic community in campus Jatinangor, as one early implementation of regulation of vehicle exhaust reduction in campus.

The handling of bicycles were conducted by representatives of Bank Mandiri Basuki Hardiyanto to Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad during Earth Day 2016 Celebration at Universitas Padjadjaran Jatinangor, Sunday (4/24). The Events was held by Student Association and Student Executive Body (BEM Kema Unpad) and was attended by leaders of university and faculty, students, teachers, and educators in Unpad.

In his speech, Rector said that permission to vehicle use in campus will be reduced. Vehicles belonging to academic community and educators can be parked in the parking area would be provided in the entrance area of campus. Provision of transport and bicycles was for academic community as well as educators as a mobilization tool.

“This aspect is an exercise of our attitude to maintain order and campus environment. We have to remind each other, “said Rector.

Unpad residents were expected to help and remind shall a violation of order happened in the campus. Any repeated violation, Rector said, would be subject to sanctions. “I hope that these sanctions should not happen. All have to remind each other, “he added.

In order to support the optimization of bicycles usage, Mandiri Bank also has built two bicycles shelter for bikes storage. One shelter with 20 bicycles capacity was built in Masjid Raya Padjadjaran parking area, while another with 5 bicycles capacity was built in Rectorate Building. On the occasion, the Rector also inaugurated the shelter in the Masjid Raya Universitas Padjadjaran parking area.

Basuki said that providing bicycle shelter on campus Jatinangor was a form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Bank Mandiri implementation. They also planned to add bicycle units and shelters in the future.

In addition to the bicycle handling and shelter inaguration, Earth Day was also celebrated by trees planting in Manggis Masjid Raya Padjadjaran University garden area. A tree planting was conducted by Rector, representatives of Bank Mandiri, Vice Rector for Academic and Students Affairs Dr. Arry Bainus, M.A., and Chairman of BEM Kema Unpad Navajo Bima Hadisuwarno.

“We would start to build awareness as well as taking care of the trees. Students, professors, and education staffs would have to plant trees and also take care of them, “said Rector.

The event was filled with health biking done by Rector, leaders, and students Unpad. Route for health biking was encircling around the main street in Jatinangor.*
