Unpad and PT Pupuk Indonesia Signed Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation Charter

[Unpad.ac.id, 19/08/2016] Reliable Human Resources Preparation is needed in realizing food security in Indonesia. This aspect required to optimize in a wide range of technology and science in the agricultural sector, including preparation of human resources in other scientific fields.

“Food security does not involve one sector only, but also about future diversification,” said Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, when opening the National Seminar on Soil Quality Mapping in Indonesia to Support the National Food Self-Sufficiency in Bale Sawala the Rectorate Building Campus Jatinangor, Friday (8/19). The event was followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding and cooperation Charter between Unpad and PT Pupuk Indonesia.

Rector said that food and agriculture sector must flourish. Natural resource development efforts are not only focused on the fulfillment of human needs but to maintain the preservation of nature.

Furthermore, Rector said that one of the aspects related to food security is the quality of soil and fertilizer. The producers of fertilizers should be able to develop products that support the concept of sustainable development. Working with academics is deemed appropriate in realizing it.

“This transdisciplinary collaboration must continue to push forward. We are convinced that PT. Pupuk Indonesia will not work alone with the support of other scientific sectors, “said Rector.

Therefore, on the sidelines of the seminar, Pupuk Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation Charter (PKS) with Unpad. The cooperation is the implementation of educational activities for the staff of Pupuk Indonesia in the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran and research cooperation in agriculture.

Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding are Rector and Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Aas Asikin Idat. The signing of the PKS was conducted by Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, Dr. Ir. Sudarjat, M.P., and the Director of Human Resources and Governance Pupuk Indonesia, Drs. Achmad Tossin Sutawikara, Ak., M.M.

In addition to these two cooperation projects, Rector also encourages the implementation of open extended campus. “With an open extended campus pattern, schools do not stay long in class. Thus, the importance of context, various researches of those schools in Unpad should be able to leave a lasting impact on the community,” said Rector.

The seminar was held by Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran in collaboration with Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company. Attending the seminar were Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Dr. Khaeron Herman, Director of Human Resources and General PT. PKG, Rahmat Pribadi, as well as the board of directors of Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company.

This seminar featured keynote speech from Dr. Herman, followed by a discussion with the Head of Research and Development of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Shakir, M.S., Director of the Fertilizer and Pesticide DG Infrastructures Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Muhrizal Sarwani, Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture Unpad Prof. Hidayat Salim, as well as the Director of PKG, Rahmat Probadi. *
